The e:Med initiative is a network of scientists and institutions with the shared objective of establishing systems medicine in Germany. e:Med promotes system-oriented, disease-overarching research aiming at improving disease prevention and diagnostic approaches, and and at facilitating personalized medicine.
The program strongly supports interdisciplinary collaboration, joining scientists with professional backgrounds as different as with molecular genetics, clinical science, mathematics, computational science, and others – all with the common objective of leveraging synergies and ensuring that the benefit of research results reaches patients without delay. Funding for this pioneering nationwide research concept by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) started for most consortia in 2014.
The e:Med initiative has created a very active and interconnected community of scientists and research groups. The annual e:Med Meeting is open to the research community and provides European scientists at any career level excellent opportunities to reach out to German research groups working in the field of Systems Medicine.
